Age of Adeline

So… I went to see Age of Adeline last week…

Not a bad movie overall, but there are definitely some crazy coincidences in the movie. Well, that’s why it’s a movie.. because things happen that don’t usually in real life.

Adeline, played by Blake Lively, was in an accident when lightning struck her with so much energy to not only restart her heart, but also to stop her aging process. So she’s been around awhile, not letting people in because of her secret. One day at a New Year’s party, this dude runs and uses his hand to stop the elevator to stop it, just so he could talk to her. His name is Ellis, and is played by Michiel Huisman (Daario Naharis from Game of Thrones seasons 4 and 5). He then goes to her workplace, asks her out, finds out where she lives, and gets his heart broken after she ended things with him.. even though, you know, they’ve known each other about a week or less.

Anyway, Adeline’s very old daughter urges her to give the guy a chance, which Adeline does, and they are together again. Ellis asks her to come spend the weekend with him at his parents’ house for their 40th wedding anniversary. Turns out, Ellis’ dad, played by Harrison Ford, was Adeline’s lover all those years ago, and he was going to propose. Adeline, who is going by Jenny, says that Adeline is her mother, and that a lot of people tells her she looks like her mom.

Anyway, long story short, Adeline runs away again, gets in an accident again, gets struck by lightning again, and starts aging again. She then tells her secret to Ellis, he meets her daughter, and they lived happily ever after.

I liked the movie. I did. But isn’t it a bit… umm… stupid, to tell a guy you met less than two weeks ago (I counted) a secret you’ve been keeping for decades? Maybe they knew each other longer, maybe there were time lapses, but still, knowing a guy less than a month, or even a year, and a secret you’ve been keeping for forever? C’mon.

did count the days that they were together, actually having a conversation and getting to know each other (because there were a few days where he called and left voice mails, she didn’t call back… I didn’t count those, since there’s no way they’re getting to know each other through one-sided voice mails), and it was less than 2 weeks.

So yeah. Good movie, maybe add a montage of them spending a few days or weeks together, maybe a “3 months later” kind of thing, you know, to show that they spent more time getting to know each other. Anyway. Good movie overall.

Cinderella (2015)

So… I forgot to post this a few weeks ago when I went to see it…

The live-action Cinderella was pretty good! Although I think Lily James didn’t really have to go on that liquid diet to make her waist that tiny (according to the few things I’ve read). Richard Madde (Robb Stark) was a great prince charming, although I may be biased. It’s a bit funny that his name in the movie is Kit, and Kit Harrington is also in Game of Thrones. But anyway. Cate Blanchett was just awesome in this movie, making the role of the evil stepmother so great. Helena Bonham Carter was a great fairy godmother, adding humor to the movie greatly.

I like that there’s this thing they say repeatedly in the movie, and I think it’s a great message that everyone can apply, not just in the movies and fairytales.

Have courage and be kind.

I also like that at least the the prince and Cinderella got to talk a bit before they fall in love, rather than the brief meeting they got in the Disney animated version.

Disney did a very good job with this movie, and I would want to see it again… when it comes out on DVD. This movie was just one big “Awww”… except the part where her parents die and stuff, of course.

Interstellar

So… My friends and I went to watch Interstellar yesterday…

A bunch of us went to watch it, and it was AMAZING. This movie made the already good day better. School had been cancelled because of the snow (whooop!), it’s still cold outside, and we saw a great movie.

The beginning, I’ll admit, was a bit confusing. I would sit through another extra half an hour or more to know more details about this world we’re in. There wasn’t a year mentioned, I don’t think, and no prior background information about how the earth currently is.

Everything after that first few minutes though, was intense.

I cried (more than once), and laughed (a bit), and screamed (more like a really loud, high-pitched squeak) once during this film. There were some parts during the movie where the music overlapped the dialogue, which made it hard to understand, but I think that was intentional… making it suspenseful until you find out later what the characters said.

The concept of this whole movie in general was amazing. All the actors were great: Mathew McConahey, Anne Hathaway, Mackenzie Foy, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, and a bunch more.

I highly recommend going to see this movie. Even better if you can do it in IMAX. It’s intense

Big Hero 6

So… I went to watch Big Hero 6 yesterday.

IT WAS GREAT!

There was humor, and emotional stuff, and action, science and technology, lovable characters, and most importantly, BAYMAX!!  The movie itself was just so cute and adorable, full of humor, and I did cry a bit during the movie.

The movie is set in San Fansokyo (I think it’s spelled like that), which is a combination of San Francisco and Tokyo. This made up world is so creative and fun, I want to live in it! All the technology that was imagined in this movie is just incredible, and I wish almost all of them were real.

I highly recommend watching this movie, and don’t forget to stay for the after-credit scenes!

Dracula Untold

So… A group of friends and I went to watch Dracula Untold on Halloween.

The movie itself was better than I expected. For some reason, when I saw the trailer/preview/teaser/whatever-you-call-it, I didn’t think it was going to be this good. I don’t know why… But! It turned out to be pretty good.

The story is interesting, Tywin Lannister is in it (I’m very proud to recognize his voice and face structure-ish when he still had all those make-up/prosthetics/special effects on his face), and Bard (Luke Evans) is in it.

I kind of think that the actress they chose to play his wife looked a bit young, but I guess it kind of makes sense since they married younger in the old times… right? Or am I just getting everything wrong. Sorry (if it’s wrong). There were some times that I felt like that jumped around a bit and it’s a bit fast paced and some points in the movie, but it’s fine.

For some reason (might be tiredness or the sugar from the candy) I started chuckling maybe 30-45 minutes before the movie ended at random things that was happening. I don’t know why I found it funny though….

Anyway, overall, it’s pretty good, although there are some parts in the movie that I have a lot of questions about…

Gone Girl

So… I went to watch Gone Girl with a few friends last night.

No, I didn’t read the book before going to watch it. I still can’t decide if it’s better to read something before watching it, or to watch it before reading it. When I try to read Game of Thrones, I think, “Oh, I know what happens next” and kind of lose motivation. But I know that by reading, you get more details… Oh well.

Anyway, the movie itself was GREAT. I did jump once during the movie.. not even during a scary scene, but I wasn’t prepared for it. It was 149 minutes long (2 hours and 29 minutes), but it was definitely worth it. It’s not one of those longs movies where you think, “When is it going to end?!” There’s definitely a reason for it to be long.

It was very well done, and my friend (and roommate Kristen) that read the book said that it’s pretty close.. the major parts anyway, which is good. I liked it, and want to watch it again… even though there are some weird parts in the movie that had me saying “OH MY GOSH WHAT IS HAPPENING” out loud in the theater.

The Fault in Our Stars

I just finished watching The Fault in Our Stars… and yes, I cried.

No, I have not read the book before. I think I have been subconsciously avoiding watching it for some reason.. But I caved and watched it with Kristen. It’s a great movie. I think it’s interesting how the characters view their life, how they deal with what’s been given to them. Gus enjoyed his life, knowing that there’s a chance the cancer would come back (I think I understood that part right). His friend Isaac didn’t give up on life once he lost his sight.. They (Hazel, Gus, and Isaac) actually went to throw eggs at Isaac’s ex-girlfriend’s house and car, and I think that’s just awesome.

This makes me want to read the book… but I know (nearly 100% sure) that I’ll be a sobbing mess by the end. For some reason, I get more emotional when I read than when I watch.. Maybe it’s because of the more descriptive words, and you actually being inside a character’s head rather than watching it on a screen.

Anyway… I enjoyed it.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

The X-Men send Wolverine back into the past to try to change the horrible future they are in right now.In the future they are in now, sentinels are killing off mutants, and also humans who have a chance of having mutant children.

Sentinels are the robots created by Boliver Trask, played by Peter Dinklange, to terminate all the mutants, because he believes that mutants are dangerous and would kill off the human race. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is sent into the past by Kitty (Ellen Page) to convince Professor X (played by James McAvoy in the past and Patrick Stewart in the future) to work with Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender in the past and Ian McKellen in the future) to work together to try to stop Mystique/Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) from killing Trask in the past, which is what convinced the government to start the sentinel army.

The movie was cool, interesting, and kind of action-packed. What I don’t understand is why they (whoever they are) were able to create a floating chair for Professor X, but not some mechanical leg part that would help him walk? It’s a small part of the movie, but still.

Yes, there was a secret ending after the credits (I Googled if there was one). And yes, it confused me, because I didn’t read any of the X-Men comics. The only knowledge I have of X-Men are the movies… So the ending was a lot confusing to me.

…It looked cool though… Anyway, all in all, it was a fun movie.

22 Jump Street

…was pretty good!

After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college (imdb). There’s a new drug called “WHYPHY”, pronounced wifi, which stands for “Word Hard, Yes. Play (or is it Party…) Hard, Yes”. You focus for a certain amount of hours, and then just party for the same amount of hours.

It was funny, with undertones of how friendship is important to people. It’s a good movie to go watch with friends if you want to have a laugh and just enjoy some time at the movie theater.

However, there was a scene towards the end, that the effects weren’t that great. Other than that, the movie was pretty good!

How to Train Your Dragon 2

I haven’t smiled that much watching a movie, I also haven’t cried that much watching a movie either. IT’S SO GOOD!

I did end up going alone, but I didn’t care, because I just wanted to watch it! And I would also watch it again in a heartbeat.

The animation was so good, graphics, songs, colors, everything. The hair on Stoic’s beard, Hiccup and Astrid’s hair, the colors of the new dragons, they’re just all so amazing!

The story was awesome, with love, friendship, and loyalty tied in together. Due to not wanting to spoil the plot, I won’t say why I was crying.

I can say that the smiling is because it’s SO GOOOD!! I don’t know how to emphasize this enough, it’s just brilliant. It was AMAZING.

Please, please, tell everyone to go watch it. You, whoever is reading this, would not be disappointed at all. It really is great. And as I’ve said earlier, I would watch it again in a heartbeat.
